Before we get too far into this subject let’s start off with what does sublime means in design. It means something that makes you stop and think “Wow that’s amazing.”
Buildings that attract my attention are older buildings, normally larger (either an old gothic style or an old farmhouse). I enjoy balconies and details on the building but something I find myself amazed by more than anything is secret/safe rooms.

Now you're probably thinking that only an older house would have a secret room that looks like something out of a movie or has a safe room. This is normal because to most people they think of a hidden place hidden in the walls to escape the others, now when most people think of a safe room they think of a:
- Storage space
- A shelter from bad weather( hurricane/tornados).
- Something dark and cold and normal underground.
- Something unrealistic ( like out of batman)
- Something dark and creepy.
- A place to go hide from an intruder.

What I think of when I think of secret/safe rooms:
- Game room (video games or board games)
- Drawing room (studio set)
- In house bar
- Movie theater

Think about what is better than finding hidden pockets in your clothing or vehicles? That feeling of "YES a pocket.. " What could be better than a whole secret room hidden in your house no one knows about? It's a space you don't have to tell your guest about or a place you can go and do whatever you want.
However, with that said they do have some flaws such as:
- It can be hard to hide something if it's obvious, that there is more space for a place.
- The secret doors can be hard to find, the best ones come with a house (and many people don't think of the value and rip it out or open it up into something else, or sometimes they just seal it off.)
If you want to make your own you can run into two problems:
1. You can tell there should be room there, and so it's not as hidden as the owner would like
2. You buy one and it looks great, but if you have to plug it into an outlet it takes away the illusion.
- Or it gets unplugged/dies (batteries run out) and the main door handle is on the inside so you can get out, but once the door shuts you can't get back in.
